Tenzing-Hillary Cup 2023 jointly organized by THC committee, Gorkhali Football Club and Nepal New Zealand Waikato Friendship Society has great significance to football lovers and the promotion of Women’ World Cup, 2023 happening in New Zealand and has drawn interest from different organizations joining hands with the organizing teams in diverse forms. Interest coming from related organizations such as New Zealand Football and Soccer United football supplies who sponsors the event with great enthusiasm. Funding support from organizations including Wel Energy Trust, Trust Waikato, New Zealand Waikato Friendship Society, Nepal NZ Chamber of Commerce and Non-Resident Nepali Association of New Zealand are recognition of the tournament’s importance and benefits to the community. Equally, support and sponsorship from businesses including Tauranga Holiday Homes; Himalayan Roofing; Auckland College of Tertiary Studies; Midas Tauranga; Eagle Eye Ltd; KC Groups Ltd; Arjun Mahajan of Lugtons Real Estate Agent; Poudel Family Trust; Everest Travels Ltd; The Gulmohar Indian Restaurant and Bar; Welcome Indian Takeaway; Himalaya Indian Cuisine, Limbu Orchard and JD Cleaning Services. Entrepreneurs and individuals Saroj Roy, Binod Siwakoti, Ravi Sherchan and Bipindra Koirala also came on board supporting the event. This shows interest and popularity of THC not only among Nepalese communities but also among broader group of people and communities.
It’s the golden moment of sports in the Waikato regions. Despite all the odds and weather challenges, it is becoming a reality. This is because of tireless effort from THC Committee members Ramesh Gurung, Nitesh Linkha Rai and Saurabh Gautam; Gorkhali FC President, Chandra Poudyal and Manager, Prasanna Kayastha; and Nepal New Zealand Waikato Friendship Society President, Bal Timilsina and their supporting team members. The tournament has a long list of VIPS joining this event ranging from New Zealand Football president, Dr Johanna Wood to local MP, Honorable David Bennett along with different communities leaders, media people and sports lovers from across New Zealand.
THC was held in the following cities and towns since it started in 2015 as Inter-Nepalese Soccer Tournament and was later renamed as Tenzing Hillary Cup in 2017.
